It's Mental Health Awareness Week - Let's talk about it!!

It is Mental Health Awareness Week this week so what other opportunity do we need to talk about this important issue. It is too easy to assume that ongoing stress is the price we have to pay to keep our lives on track but that doesn't have to be the case. It is time to challenge that assumption.

In March 2017, the Mental Health Foundation conducted a survey of UK citizens to understand the prevalence of self-reported mental health problems, levels of positive and negative mental health and the actions people take to deal with the stressors in their lives. The results are shocking.

According to the report, only 13 per cent of the UK population report living with high levels of good mental health, almost half (more than 4 in 10) say they have experienced depression and nearly two-thirds of people said they'd experienced a mental health problem.

The most notable differences are associated with household income and economic activity with nearly 3 in 4 people living in the lowest household income bracket reporting a mental health problem, compared to 6 in 10 of the highest household income bracket.

Mental health is a real challenge that we all have to deal with - man or woman, old or young. Please do not suffer in silence. Don't be too shy to ask for the help you need.

If you need urgent help, please get in touch with The Mental Health Foundation who can put you in touch with the services and organisations that can help:
