Amazon undercuts rivals with new 'low-price' Echo

Amazon has slashed the price of its Echo smart speaker in a bid for total domination of the market. The online retailer has dropped the price of the Amazon Echo to £89.99 (almost half the price of the original device which is on sale for £149.99).

The new Amazon Echo has also had a complete facelift - it is aboutt half the size of the original Echo and it now includes interchangeable skins that can be removed to alter the style of the speaker.

There’s currently six designs to choose from which include Charcoal Fabric, Sandstone Fabric, Heather Grey Fabric, Oak Finish, Walnut Finish and Silver Finish. The new Echo also comes with better acoustics.

Amazon also unveiled The Echo Plus, a taller, less compact design that comes with enhanced 360-degree omni-directional audio, with Dolby processing, to provide deeper bass and crisper high notes, as well as a new version of its Fire TV player that will stream 4K video like its predecessor, but will sell for £70, a 30 per cent reduction on the price of the current version.

The new Amazon Echo will be available from October 31, although it can already be ordered via
