Want to see the best results in the gym? Take up squash

Anyone thinking about taking up a sport or joining a gym to improve their fitness can be forgiven for  thinking that running or something like martial arts or boxing as the best way to get results. However, a new study of has found that squash (yes, squash) is the most effective way for men to burn calories.

The study, which analysed more than 30 sports, found that men burn the most calories playing squash - 886 in 60 minutes. More than running (738), boxing (664) or swimming (591).

The study also explored the main reason why men joined the gym. Unsurprisingly, most men joined to increase their overall fitness levels (64 percent) and to build their muscle. However, interestingly, one in four did so to help their mental health. One in four also joined the gym to increase their fitness.

29 percent said they continue going to the gym to increase their fitness levels (29 percent), to make healthier choices throughout the day/week (26 percent) and to keep on top of their mental health (17 percent).
